What’s On in Thredbo

The Unveiling of the First Maquette

When/Where:
Saturday 8th June
2pm
The Lounge Bar
Thredbo Alpine Hotel

Join us for the unveiling of the first Public Art Project maquette, and get excited for what’s to come.

Created by Phillip Doggett-Williams, the first unveiled maquette captures the spirit of the legendary Frank Prihoda. A storyteller with a knack for remembering details, and ever a courteous and generous host, the final life-size sculpture will invite viewers to take a seat with Frank and listen to his tales.

Also to be released on the opening weekend are two new exclusive cocktail creations to toast to the life and times of Frank Prihoda, and Elyne Mitchell.

The Frank Prihoda Gin Martini

Garnished with cornichon, this martini expertly blends wildbrumby Classic Gin with vermouth – a distinguished cocktail to represent a distinguished Face of Thredbo.

The Mrs. Mitchell

Another unique twist on a classic martini – the Mrs. Mitchell blends wildbrumby Limoncello schnapps and Kosciuszko vodka.

Zesty, yet elegant, it’s a reminder of the remarkable woman who passionately loved the Snowy Mountains, and who gave the world the Silver Brumby novel series. Learn more about Mrs. Mitchell.

About Phillip Doggett-Williams

A painter, sculptor, printmaker, and collaborator, the works of Melbourne-based artist Phillip Doggett-Williams cross artistic boundaries and disciplines. Though his works feature in prestigious galleries across the country such as the Australian National Gallery in Canberra, he’s no stranger to the arts scene of the Snowy Mountains region. Angel, his sculpture of a skier in motion with arms outstretched like wings, can be viewed on the grounds of wildbrumby distillery. Currently, he is working on a major Public Art project depicting several Thredbo pioneers and local heroes.

Frank Prihoda

Born 1921 in former Czechoslovakia, Frank Prihoda approached life with the spirit of an adventurer. After fleeing the communist regime in 1949 by crossing over a frozen lake into Austria, he eventually made his way to Australia, and henceforth called it home. In 1956, he represented Australia at the Winter Olympics in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy – making him Australia’s oldest living Olympian up until his passing aged 101 in 2022.  A storyteller with a knack for remembering details, and ever a courteous and generous host, Phillip Doggett-Williams’ sculpture invites viewers to take a seat with Frank and listen to his tales.
